Death has long been something of a taboo topic in our culture. When someone passes, or is diagnosed with a terminal illness, often times we don't know what to say to the bereaved or the affected person. When the time comes for the funeral, a somber mood can dominate the proceedings, and if there is to be a gathering for food and remembrance, often this is a burden placed on the bereaved or a family member - to open up their homes for a gathering at the time when they are intensely grieving. It can all be a blur, and when the day is over, and the funeral attendees have left, the quiet can be deafening.

Departies was founded on the idea that while there is a time for traditional funeral services and somber remembrance, there is also a time for joyous celebration, laughter, storytelling, music, food, games, and happy tears. Our mission is to provide this opportunity in a way that removes the burden from the bereaved... and to give those who are facing terminal illness a chance to celebrate their lives with friends and family at an event that creates lasting, positive memories.
